Reader x Deidara

It was a typical Saturday night. Your college work was mostly done for the weekend, you didn't have to work in the morning and you were watching a DVD in your room while your parents were out for the evening. However this Saturday your friend, and recently crush, Deidara was sat with you.

You had met Deidara in college at the beginning of the year. He was a couple of years above you and would be leaving that year but he had been kind enough to help you out when he noticed you were lost on the first day and you had become great friends since. Even though he was older and an Art major, while your course of study was quite different, you two had a lot in common and had become very close over the course of the year.

Which is why the two of you were snuggled together on your daybed watching some indie horror movie Deidara's best friend Sasori had told him about. The quality was grainy but it was very graphic and violent with plenty of jumpscares which was why Deidara had his arm around you, smirking at your reaction. As you had noticed your growing attraction to your blond friend, you had also begun to suspect that he may have feelings for you too with the little hints he gave you.

Hints such as the way he always found an excuse to be close to you and simple touches like his arm round your shoulder or holding your hand to help you up, and the way he always looked at you with those almost unnaturally bright blue eyes with a genuine smile. You were one of the only people he trusted to talk to honestly and openly about his art too.

“What's the matter, un?” He asked you, noticing you staring at him in your thoughts, rather than at the movie where another young woman was being viciously gored. You began to blush having been caught admiring him.

“Just thinking, about stuff.” You muttered lamely. Deidara smiled and leaned closer to you, your faces inches apart.

“Stuff about me, un?” he asked with a sly smile. But you were saved from answering by a small insistent knock at your door, causing you to pause the dvd again, for the third time so far.

“Ugh, what now?” you groaned, rolling your eyes and getting off the bed, opening the door to a small and sleepy face. “You can't be hungry, you just had a snack.” you sighed.

“Can't sleep. I heard a noise.” Your little brother sighed. He had been coming up with excuses all night to interrupt you. The toddler had taken a shine to Deidara because he always let him get away with murder and he was a bit jealous that the two of you were spending time together without him.

“I told you last time, there isn't any thing there.” You sighed following him to his room to tuck him back in.

“What's wrong my little man, un?” Deidara asked, ruffling his hair. You felt your face heat up slightly. When did he sneak in behind you?

“Monsters!” Your brother whined, pouting. Another Oscar winning performance to fool Deidara into letting him stay up.

“Monsters?” Deidara asked. “We're not afraid of monsters, are we, yeah?” Deidara began opening drawers, Wardrobes and looking under cabinets and the bed.

“Nope, no monsters here, un. Are you sure?” Deidara asked.

“You know monsters aren't real sweetie, come on. Lie down and go to sleep.” you insisted, tucking his fluffy blanket around him.

“They are real, and scary!” the kid replied earnestly, although you could see his eyes drooping.

“Here, un. This will scare away any monsters!” Deidara says putting a large blue something on the bedside table. While you had been settling the boy down, Deidara had found a tub of Playdoh and started playing with it.

“Wow, what's that?”Your brother asked.

“It's a dragon, un!Monsters are scared of dragons and if a monster comes in here, it will grow bigger than the monster and scare them all away.” Deidara said with a conspiratorial wink.

“Cool!” Your brother said, reaching out to poke the small model slightly, then snuggling back into his bed.

'Boys!' you thought, rolling your eyes and shaking your head. But at least it had worked and you could go back to the movie.

When you sat back down on your bed, grabbing the remote and rearranging the cushions to get comfy again, Deidfara was getting back in from the bathroom, still drying his hands.

“That kids stuff is really sticky, un.” he complained.

“What do you care? You're always covered in clay!” you chuckled. Deidara grinned at you and with no further warning, dived on top of you, making the bed squeak and groan.

“And now you're covered in me.” he laughed, threatening to lick you as you batted his face away.

“Get off you dork, you're going to wake him up again.” you grunted, trying to elbow him in the ribs. He was kind of skinny for a guy but he was still bigger and heavier than you. Not to mention stronger than he looked.

“Sorry.” he snickered, rolling off onto the mattress again.

“Thanks, for before.” you said when you had caught your breath.

“Don't worry about it, un. He's a good kid.” Deidara said with a dismissive nod.

“Yeah, he is.” you smiled. “And he really likes you.”

“I like him too.” Deidara grinned. “And what about you, un. Do... you like me, un?” He asked, his verbal tic increasing in his nervousness. You looked into cerulean eyes to see the honest affection and the vulnerability his brash persona hid.

“Yeah, I like you Deidara, I really do.” you admitted quietly, your heart racing.

“Good. 'Cause I like you too, a lot.” he murmured, leaning down to gently and softly press his lips against yours.

Your heart stopped as your eyes fluttered shut. Your hands instinctively sliding up his back to stroke the ends of his long golden hair, so soft between your fingers. A pause, a breath and then you were leaning forward to join your lips again, a whimper creeping from the back of your throat as he pressed firmer against you, his calloused clay stained hands reaching around you to gather you into his arms. Lips parted, moved, pressed and played together as tentative tongues shyly attempted to join the game.

“I love you.” you gasped between kisses. Deidara smiled, one of his rare genuine beaming smiles.

“I love you too, I have since the moment I saw you, dazed and confused the first day of term”. He confessed. He seemed so happy. You knew you had to be straight with him.

“Deidara, I have to tell you...” You began but were interrupted by the sound of a key in the front door. Deidara jumped up in panic realising your parents were home. The both of you straightened your clothes as you went downstairs to greet them.

The smell of delicious food was wafting from the kitchen. Your Dad had decided to pick up some takeout on their way home and it was driving you mad.

“Hi Mum, that smells amazing, can I have some?” You asked with a cheeky grin.

“Hello sweetie, it's nearly gone now sorry. We ate it on the way home.” Your mum said.

“Who's your friend?” your dad asked, spotting Deidara hovering slightly awkwardly in the doorway. For such a mouthy brat he could be really shy when meeting new people.

“That's Deidara, you remember I told you about him.” You replied, jerking your head and hinting to Deidara to come in and be sociable.

“Hi, un.” He muttered with an uncomfortable smile.

“The artist?” Your dad asked, giving him an appraising gaze.

Deidara cringed internally and braced himself. He was no fool and he knew what most people's parents would think of him. Long haired scruffy artist, must be a hippy waster or something. But to his surprise your parents weren't like that.

“When will we get to see your paintings then?” Your mum asked.

“Sculptures, un. I do Sculpture, and there's an exhibition coming up soon. A competition run by the college art department and some famous benefactors. I get to display a few pieces in it, along with some of my colleagues.” he replied, eager to talk more about his favourite subject; his work.

“Well we'll have to take a look then.” your dad replied. “We're going to bed now, don't stay up too late.” Your dad gave you a warning look.

“We were watching a movie, is it ok if we stay up and finish it downstairs?” You asked.

“Ok but keep the volume down.” Your dad said, hiving you a hug goodnight before following your mum upstairs to bed.

“Actually, That smelled really good, can we order takeout too?” you whisper-shouted up the stairs.

“Yes just be quiet.” your dad replied in a similar tone.

“Can you phone for some...” You began, turning to Deidara who had his phone to his ear.

“Already on it, un!” he replied with a grin.

The film had finished, with a quite disappointing end in your opinion. You weren't sure why Sasori had enjoyed it so much. Your food hadn't arrived yet and it was a nice evening so the two of you decided to wait for the delivery guy out front. It was quiet and peaceful, just sat on the steps with Deidara, staring at the sky. Even with the street lights you could see a few stars and you were just warm enough with Deidara's arm around you.

“This is nice, un. Just having time to be.” Deidara suddenly says. You look at him a little unsure what he means.

“I mean, when I'm alone with you I don't have to be or do anything. I don't have any pressure on me to act a certain way or do certain things. You let me be myself, un. I can be loud or quiet, cool or dorky, and you don't care. You're just always there and I'm grateful. I can be honest with you.” He said with a smile, kissing the top of your head as he pulled you closer.

“I feel the same. You've never acted like those other guys, pressuring me into being something I'm not.” you replied, realising you had something you wanted to say to him earlier.

“In fact I feel I can be completely honest with you, which is why I have a secret I need to confess.” You began, panicking a little on the inside at telling him what no-one else at your college knew.

“You have to promise not to tell another soul. Even if you can't handle the truth and can't be with me, I understand but please keep my secret.” you begged with wide pleading eyes. Deidara began to worry about what you had to tell him.

“I promise, un. I would never tell your secrets anyway. I wouldn't do that to you and whatever you say won't make me not want to be with you.” He assured you, turning to face you fully, holding both your hands in his and looking deep into your open honest eyes.

“The truth is, My brother isn't actually my brother. He's my son.” You heard Deidara gasp but he still held your hands and he was still patiently looking at you with surprise in his eyes. “It was a stupid mistake when I was in high school, too young to know exactly what I'd got myself into until it was too late and my mum decided it would be best for me to continue college and she would look after the baby. It was my dad's idea to tell people he was my brother but most of the family and one or two of my old high school friends know the truth.” you confessed, really nervous of his reaction.

“Wow, ok, un. So does he know you're his mother or does he think you're his sister?” Deidara asked. He was taking the news surprisingly well, although you could tell he was in shock.

“He calls both me and my mother 'Mum' because he's too young to know the difference. When he's a bit older we'll explain to him” You told him.
“So why didn't you get your own place with him,un? You could get student aid for a place and stuff while you're at college.” Deidara asked, moving back into your previous position with his arm around you and your head on his shoulder. You sighed in relief. He was ok with it. You knew then that Deidara was someone special.

“I can't afford to. Even with student aid and working part time like I do now the childcare costs would eat up all my income. I don't have to pay rent at home and my mum takes care of the childcare for free, leaving me to study in relative peace.” You replied.

It wasn't an ideal situation and when he'd been a baby things were tough. Your parents while supportive were still disappointed and a little angry with you but somehow things had worked out and you were better off than you would have been if you'd tried to do things alone.

“Hey, the two of you should move in with me, un!” Deidara suddenly said.

“What? Seriously?” you almost choked.

“Yeah, Sasori's been getting on my nerves lately, I need a new roommate. And besides, the little ankle biter's cool, un!” Deidara said, excitedly. You smiled fondly.

“Deidara that sounds wonderful, it really does but children are not only a big responsibility, they are also expensive. You know we couldn't afford it, You're struggling for money as much as I am. They don't call you starving artists for nothing.” you joked gently but he knew you were right.

“Ok maybe not right now, un. But think about it, yeah? That competition I told you and your parents about has a huge cash prize. Enough to set me up in a studio, and with the publicity from it, I'm sure I'll be able to start selling pieces, maybe even get some commissions.” He said, already envisioning what things could be. “You won't even have to get childcare because I'll be at home in the studio all day. The little munchkin can help me out, maybe learn a few things about real art, un!” he added, making you smile.

“Ok I'll think about it.” You replied. “Either way, I'm glad we'll be together no matter what may come.”
:iconidontevenknowplz: Random thing. Please don't shoot me for OOC. Another one of those plot lines that came to me and wouldn't leave me alone. I fail! :/
